HE IS…Our Treasure

H E   I S . . .

Christ Jesus is the greatest Treasure in all the universe. He is the image and radiance of God the Father (Col 1:15, Heb 1:3). In him, all the fullness of God resides (Col 2:9). He is the Firstborn over all creation and Creator of all things (Col 1:15-16). He is King of kings, Lord of lords (Rev 19:16), Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (Rev 21:13). He is exalted above all (Phil 2:9).

And believer, He is our’s, forevermore.

So if this is true, if this Treasure is truly mine—a free gift given to me by a Father who loves me eternally—why do I often feel so empty, so lacking?

Since the loss of my marriage, I often feel so grumbly, so low, so alone. I measure my life by what I’ve lost and what is missing. I can tick off the list to anyone willing to give me ten minutes of their time. And I often do just that.

But how often do I declare to others (and my own heart!) all that is mine in Christ?

Why is my heart so drawn to the list of what I lack?

Oh heart, look up! See Christ, seated at the right hand of God. He is your Treasure that will never walk away, forget you, or run out of love. He is enough.

He is more than enough.

My words feel so inadequate today as I think about such big, awe-inspiring truths and then glance upon the state of my own heart. What a disconnect. What a faulty perspective I have. How can I feel such emptiness when Christ is mine?

Jesus, have mercy on me. I am quick to forget that you are my Treasure. I am quick to run my mind across the list of all the have-nots instead of cultivating thankfulness for all you are, all you’ve given to me, and all that you’re preparing for me.

My eyes are often cast low—hungry to search and focus on all I’ve lost. In turn, my heart swells with pride and complaint.

I repent. Through your Spirit, please help me lift my eyes in complete focus on you, my great Treasure. In turn, please allow gratitude and humility to bud and bloom. Amen.

As we behold Jesus, abundance blooms in our hearts. We see the truth of it all: He is more than More than MORE than enough. He is our Treasure and our very great reward, both now and forevermore.

Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!
