Dear Church, Step Near

Philippians 2 gives us a stunning picture of Jesus, our God WITH us.

[Jesus], existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.
Instead He emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when He had come as a man,
He humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.
(Phil 2:6-8)

Jesus stepped in near, took on flesh and walked in to hurting people’s lives. And guess how this passage begins? By calling us to do the same:
“Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus… (Phil 2:5)

Dear Church, we are called to step in towards people. To live incarnationally--the hands and feet of Jesus reaching out to the broken in our midst. We are not to exalt ourselves but rather, humble ourselves before others. We are called to empty ourselves as obedient servants.

Dear Church, who would Jesus have you serve this week? Is there an abandoned wife or single Mom in your community? How might you step in and love them with “the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus”. Step near, reach out, humble yourselves, serve without expecting anything in return. Love and then love some more.

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40
