Dear Church, Your Prayers Are A Gift

If you’re feeling at a loss to know what to pray for the woman walking through an unwanted divorce, could I point you towards Psalm 138:8? This verse is a treasure and praying it over a woman walking through marital breakdown will be a hope-filled and powerful gift.

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me.
Lord, your faithful love endures forever;
do not abandon the work of your hands.
PSALM 138:8

Her life has been completely upended. Her plans have gone out the window and her future likely feels very bleak. Praying for the Lord to fulfill his purpose for her is a stamp of great faith upon her life. It’s a firm belief that God is not finished with her, even if her husband is. It’s a declaration that her life is not over. There is still great value and work to do. Pray that she will not give in to hopelessness about the days ahead. Pray that she will press in and press on in kingdom work. Pray for an increase in faith to believe that the Lord is not done with her.

Pray that she will remember the love of the Lord is vastly different from the “love” she experienced in marriage. The love of the Lord endures forever. It will not end, walk away, give up, move on. It is fixed. It will endure. Pray for her heart to rest secure in this eternal truth.

Pray for the Lord to press on in his work in her life. Pray that he opens a door for “comfort ministry” as we see in 2 Corinthians 1–that with the comfort she sees from the Lord, she will comfort others in their affliction. Pray for the Lord to continue providing daily bread, making her more like Jesus, using her gifts to encourage the church, and growing her faith. These are precious and powerful prayers to pray because they call the Lord to act on his promises. He loves to say yes to these prayers!

Dear Church, our Lord has the final say over the dear women walking through the pain and betrayal of a broken marriage. He is not finished with her! Pray with faith for him to press on in his loving work and fulfill his work in her life. Pray with her, pray over her, pray daily, remind her of your prayers. Join in this final say of the Father, declaring, the Lord WILL fulfil his promises!
